Haven’t had much time to read lately (busy writing), which is never fun, but I did enter a couple of book giveaways. First, at SFFWorld.com, I entered for a chance to win Tony Peak’s sci-fi novel, Inherit the Stars. It sounds exactly like my kind of space opera. I also entered a chance to win Red Rising by Pierce Brown – kinda a mashup between Hunger Games and Mars colonization at Goodreads
I’m going to give away both the ebook and audiobook versions of my short story collection, Stories from Arisa, for anyone who signs up for the newsletter from my website. This is the short story collection set in Arisa, the world of A Warrior’s Path. Jacob Cooper (a wonderful author in his own right. Here’s his website: http://www.circleofreign.com/reign/) is going to do the narration. Why him instead of Nick Podehl? Well, mostly because Jacob’s got a great voice and is trying to build a career as a narrator. This just felt like the right thing to do in order to help support someone who’s also trying to make it in this strange world of writing.
I’ll have more information about that soon.
BTW Nick is still doing the audiobook for A Warrior’s Knowledge and A Warrior’s Penance (the working title of book 3). And speaking of book 3, I just passed 115k words. The first half only needs one or two passes to get it right, and I figure I’m about 55-65k words from the end.
Just an update. Hoping to start production of the audiobook version of A Warrior’s Knowledge in late October. Now, back to writing book 3, A Warrior’s Penance. I’m at the part where Rukh and Jessira almost…
SFFWorld.com was the first fantasy/scifi forum I discovered waaaaaay back in 2003. It’s also where I still oftentimes lurk and occasionally comment (I check the threads about once a day). It was an absolute thrill to be interviewed by the folks over there.
Makes you wonder what other near death experiences we might have had as a race during the Cold War.
Looks like I won the bronze for general fantasy in the 2015 Reader’s Favorite Awards. Scroll down until you get to Fiction-Fantasy-General.
Before I get to the update, I should apologize about the confusion on my Amazon page. Amazon did something goofy with my books back in August, and I’m still sorting it out. They split the audiobook version and kindle version of A Warrior’s Path (book 1) from the paperback version and put them on two different pages. I got that fixed, but now they don’t have A Warrior’s Path listed as one of my books. It’s still on Amazon, and they should be fixing that bug sometime soon (I hope). Also, book 1 is back to being available on Nook, Kobo, iTunes and Smashwords. I’ll have book 2 out on those other platforms in November (have to wait for the exclusive Kindle Select program with Amazon to expire).
So, about the audiobook for book 1. Big smiley face about that. The narrator is Nick Podehl (narrator of the Name of the Wind and Wise Man’s Fear), and I love the work he did for it.
Now, about A Warrior’s Penance aka book 3. It’s about 1/2 done (90k words) with fairly extensive beta reads on the first 1/2. I’m working on the second half, and I’m hoping to have it finished by early 2016.
I’m slowly getting more and more excited to see this. Terry Brooks’ classic Elfstones of Shannara on television. The visuals alone are great, and I just hope the writing for the show is just as good.
Cobra vs. Python-clashing in the streets of Singapore. It sounds like a natural for a Syfy movie.
