First draft of A Warrior’s Penance is finally finished!

I know writing a book is all about the journey, but it sure is sweet when I get to write these two words.

Whew! I’m a little numb right now. I still can’t believe I’m done with this story that’s occupied my mind for so many years. I also can’t believe it ended up being roughly 1550 words of a single story stretched out over three books. As for editing, I’ll get to that next year.

Audiobook for A Warrior’s Knowledge

The audiobook version of A Warrior’s Knowledge (book 2) is done, but it still has to go through a final round of sound checks. I have no idea how long that will take, but I’m told it can be up to  10-14 business days. Then, it’s released on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. We’re on day 3 today. Sigh.

New formatting for books 1 and 2

I’m updating the appearance of both the ebooks and print versions of books 1 and 2. The story itself remains the same, but the presentation of the words is so much prettier now. Here’s a glimpse of what the ebooks will look like. The print version is even nicer. They should be ready to go early next week. That reminds me: I should take the print version off the market for now.

Wish I had time to read

Haven’t had much time to read lately (busy writing), which is never fun, but I did enter a couple of book giveaways. First, at, I entered for a chance to win Tony Peak’s sci-fi novel, Inherit the Stars. It sounds exactly like my kind of space opera. I also entered a chance to win Red Rising by Pierce Brown – kinda a mashup between Hunger Games and Mars colonization at Goodreads

Giving away Stories from Arisa

I’m going to give away both the ebook and audiobook versions of my short story collection, Stories from Arisa, for anyone who signs up for the newsletter from my website. This is the short story collection set in Arisa, the world of A Warrior’s Path. Jacob Cooper (a wonderful author in his own right. Here’s his website: is going to do the narration. Why him instead of Nick Podehl? Well, mostly because Jacob’s got a great voice and is trying to build a career as a narrator. This just felt like the right thing to do in order to help support someone who’s also trying to make it in this strange world of writing.

I’ll have more information about that soon.

BTW Nick is still doing the audiobook for A Warrior’s Knowledge and A Warrior’s Penance (the working title of book 3). And speaking of book 3, I just passed 115k words. The first half only needs one or two passes to get it right, and I figure I’m about 55-65k words from the end.
