June 2022 Newsletter
Hi everyone,
It’s heading toward the summer, and things are warming up down here in NC. In the winter, I can’t wait for the warmth, but then when it kicks in, I can’t wait for the cold. Weird, right? Anyone else feel that way?
Anyway, on to some things going on in my writing life!
First, the audiobook for A Necessary Heresy releases on May 31st. As before, the fantastic Nick Podehl does the narration, and as before and alway, he does an amazing job. Having him as the narrator for all of my books has been such a blessing. And for those interested, here’s the link: https://www.audible.com/pd/A-Necessary-Heresy-Audiobook/B09V1XDYXK

Next on the agenda is the book I’ve been working on while I’ve been taking a break from Instrument of Omens. I’ve mentioned the book before, Blood of a Novice, book one of The Eternal Ephemera. The worldbuilding was an interesting exercise since it had to incorporate the philosophy that came about from a dream that hounded me one night from 2 AM until I finally woke up and wrote it all down at 6 AM.
I’m also trying a different type of writing style with it since I’m releasing it as a webserial. The chapters as they’re written and edited go first to those on my Patreon (click here for the link). And several weeks later, those chapter go on Royal Road where you can read it for free (click here for the link).
Here’s the blurb:
Cam Folde will shake the very fabric of creation… or see all his hopes turn to ash.
The son of the town drunk, Cam never figured on letting his family name hold him down. He always strove to dream bigger, to fight for something better, to achieve more than what everyone else expected of him.
But, as they say, ‘once a Folde, always a Folde’.
And when a fateful decision to rescue a friend leads to disaster, Cam soon sees every neighbor’s door slam shut in his face. Fortune’s favor is lost, and he spirals away from his hopes and ambitions; his fall finally ending at the bottom of a bottle where his life slips ever more rapidly into ruin.
It is only when two powerful Masters of Ephemera arrive in his small town that Cam is offered a chance at redemption: an opportunity to attend the Ephemeral Academy, the very school where the next generation of Masters are trained. There, Cam must grow beyond his self-imposed failures and fight to achieve the greatness and heights he’s always sought.
And there, Cam will discover that though the Path into Divinity is as steep as it is arduous, there are more fearsome things than man that often brave its perilous climb…
Oh, yes. The series is an epic, progression fantasy, and it’s part of The Anchored Worlds. There’s even a character who should be very familiar. The story has been so much fun, and I’ve loved how it’s progressing (see what I did there?).
And as far as the break is concerned, I needed it for many reasons. Foremost was that I needed to cleanse the palate so I could approach book 4 with fresh eyes and a fresh mind. I’m so glad I did that because even as I’ve been writing Blood of a Novice, I’ve had story ideas, themes, and other elements about book 4 rushing along in my head. I even got the cover art done as well as a working title. But it’s only a working title, so I’m not ready to share it yet.
The final bit of news I wanted to share is regarding Uvalde, TX. By now, I’m sure everyone is aware of what happened there. I’ve not slept well since, and even during the day, I’ve been sick to my stomach. I can only imagine the grief the families of the victims are suffering. I don’t have a solution to what ails us as a nation, but at least I can support those families. So, on June 3rd, a number of authors and I are discounting our books to $0.99 and all the proceeds are going to the families of the victims. In my case, I’m discounting every one of my books to $0.99 and whatever I raise, I’ll be matching.
And I’ll have a link to the page with authors who are participating in the sale later on.
Sincerely,
Davis

Thank you for your kindness and Thank you for ALL of your hard work and efforts and entertainments. Joy to our hearts straight to you and yours
Thank you for those kind words and even kinder sentiment, Krystal. I was so happy to take part in the fundraising for Uvalde and post about it everywhere I could. And I was even happier to see how many many people wanted to help.

Just finished a necessary heresy. In about 3 days. I loved it. Action was great. My heart was going through it with what’s going on with anya/Jessira cinder/ruhk. Well done and amazing hoping I don’t have to wait another year for book 4 :(. But I understand it takes time. Anyways I loved it and keep it up.
Glad you liked it, Ryan! And the next book will take time, but hopefully the wait won’t seem so long. Thankfully, there’s never been a time like now to read books by other authors. So many good books!

I was eagerly awaiting the audible release of A Necessary Heresy, and it definitely did not disappoint. I’m usually not one for posting comments, but I couldn’t help it in this case. I’m excited for any upcoming projects and can’t wait for the next installment of Instrument of Omens! Officially a huge fan and wanted to thank you for these great books.
Thanks, Garrett! It never gets hold hearing the excitement people have for the books.
