June 2021 Newsletter

Hey y’all!

It’s my June 2021 update. I wish I could say I’ve got information saying I’m done with book 3 of Instrument of Omens, but c’mon, I just released book 2 a few months ago. At least I can say I’m 50% of the way through with book 3, and the part that’s complete has gone through 3 edits already. That’s actually a big chunk of completed work, so fingers crossed I can keep up the pace.

Some of that depends on how the real-life job goes. It’s been stressful and nearly broke me a time or two the past year, especially since November. I’m not sure how I managed to keep writing and do everything else that comes with publishing, but thankfully, I was able to take a vacation in May. It was my first since September 2019, and man, did I need it. It was absolute bliss to decompress, but it also told me that I really need to take more time off and take care of myself, so that’s going to be my new goal moving forward.

BTW the vacation spot was Hilton Head, SC, a place I’ve been going to for awhile now, but in years past, it was always with my kids. This time it was just me and the wife, our first couple-only vacation since the birth of our oldest child, 20 years ago now. That’s also something I want more in my life.

I also did some reading in the past month. My favorite series is relatively unknown. It’s by Jeremy Bai, the translator of the massive Chinese language bestseller, I Shall Seal the Heavens. In this case, it was Jeremy’s original series, the Heretic Peacekeeper. It takes place in a weird future universe where cultivation (progression in magical arts) is outlawed and controlled by a tyrannical corporation and humanity exists in various Earths and Heavens, each one different and most of them slowly crumbling. The main character is a police officer who learns the true nature of the laws he is enforcing. It is a fabulous series and reads like a mix between a noir detective series, Blade Runner, and Dredd (the Karl Urban version). I love it!

So that’s what’s been going on with my life: writing, reading, and realizing I need to take more time off.

Take care everyone, and happy reading!

Davis

Take care of you! I’m loving the Instrument of Omens series, one of the best I’ve read in a long while. Thank you for all you do!

I’m genuinely glad you had time to unwind a bit and chill with your beloved bride! You should do that more often, if possible! If you’re writing in addition to a more typical job, then kudos to you! I loved your books that I’ve read. And am absolutely looking forward to the next one. But, I’m truly glad that you’re taking care of yourself.

Appreciate it, and I definitely plan on doing more to keep me mentally healthy. Too much stress isn’t good for anyone.

Haha! Those are the best kind of books, though, right? I love that feeling when you just have to find out what happens next. Even better when you realize there’s more to the story.

Hey Davis, do you have any update on when the audiobook for memories of prophecies might come out? I absolutely loved the first book, and I’d love to get the audiobook of the second in the series as well!

        Hi Tyler,

Sorry about the late reply, but in answer to your question, there has been an unavoidable production snafu, and right now, it looks like December 7th is the release date for the audiobook.

I accidentally started with the Instruments of omens books. I was a bit lost at times, but it was still so enjoyable. I can’t wait to read the other anchored world books and just come back and reread these lol. I haven’t found a series this captivating since I read Eragon and the scythe chronicles.

I don’t think you’re alone in reading Instrument of Omens first, lol. A lot of people have, but I’m glad you weren’t too lost. And those are some wonderful books to hold mine alongside!

    Hi Davis!

Just finished the Castes and Outcastes trilogy, the William Wilde series and the first book of the Instrument of Omens series and I’m just curious how many books are you planning for this series? Always excited to read more about Rukh and Jessira!

      Hi Nathaniel,

Thank you for reaching out to me. Right now the plan is for 7 books in Instrument of Omens. Hopefully, that will be plenty of Rukh and Jessira!

Just finished MOP after finally completing the stormlight archive between the two in your series. I’m sitting here panting for more! What an awesome journey you’ve taken us on Davis! I can’t wait to see what Mahadev reveals to Cinder and Annya in book 3.

    Thank you,

    Dan

    Davis,

I just finished MOP and I’m in love with it. I’m a simple man when it comes to my reading. I love the “coming of age” aspect, and I love a love story. Don’t ask me why, my wife makes fun of me all the time for that. With that being said, I think Cinder and Anya are my favorite fantasy couple I have read up to date! Thank you for scratching all my itches when it comes my genre of choice! I hope with all that good in this world that Cinder and Anya see their way through all 7 books with a happy ending, and you can rest assured I will be eagerly waiting for each new release ‘til it’s finished! Thanks for your incredible story telling!

Wow! Thank you for that high praise, Nathan! And since you like Cinder and Anya so much, if you want to read their true backstory, it begins in the Castes and the OutCastes.
