Cover art challenge

I was given a 7-day challenge by Mihir Wanchoo at Fantasy Book Critic to post covers that I love. No reviews or anything like that. I finished it yesterday over on my Facebook page, but here in one place is what I came up with.

Day 1: It’s the original cover for Jonathan French’s The Grey Bastards. I still don’t know why the publisher changed it.

Day 2: The White Dragon, which was the first Pern novel I ever read. It’s by Anne McCaffrey with art by the inimitable Michael Whelan. There are times when a book comes along, and it is exactly what a person needs. This book was that for me.

Day 3: This is from The Darkness That Comes Before. The cover art is as simple, elegant, and brutal as the book itself.

Day 4: The Unremembered by Peter Orullian. I love the mystical feel of this one, which is by Kekai Kotaki.

Day 5: This is the first book I read by this no-name author. Hardly any one has heard of him. The artist, on the other hand, is Stephan Martiniere.

Day 6: This isn’t strictly a book cover art, but it was the cover art to Molly Hatchet’s debut album. The first time I saw this, I had chills. I still have chills; the brooding menace of the figure. It’s the Death Dealer by Frank Frazetta.

Day 7: And finally, the last day of the cover art challenge. It’s Daughter of Empire by Janny Wurts. I’ll be honest. I read the book because it had Raymond Feist’s name on it, but over time, I’ve come to appreciate Janny’s talent more and more, whether it’s her writing or her art. She’s fantastic.
