The good news and the bad…

For the past few weeks, I’ve been discussing the sale of the audiobook rights to my third book to Audible Studios. Audible Studios is closely affiliated with Audible and owned by Amazon, and they’re one of the largest audiobook publishers in the world. Well, discussion turned into a contract, and it was finalized yesterday.
This is wonderful news for me! I’ve always wanted writing to become a second career, but the biggest barrier has always been informing people that my books even exist. This is where marketing comes in, and it isn’t something I enjoy. More importantly, it takes time away from writing. But now, with Audible’s marketing muscle to help promote the third book (and the series), I am hopeful that I’ll have a chance (fingers crossed) to get my books in front of more readers.
Now, the bad news. Audible Studios would like me to delay the release of the ebook and print version of the third book until the audiobook version is complete. They want a simultaneous release for all three versions since doing so will boost sales across all three platforms.
What this means is that the third book won’t become available until probably late July/early August. I know this is crap news, and I’ve been dreading posting this information since I first learned of it’s possibility. But I hope everyone understands how fantastic this opportunity with Audible is for my professional goals as a writer.

What I’m doing now…

Waiting on the beta reads, and while I’m doing so, I decided to try my hand at a short story. Something featuring the legendary warrior, Hume. We’ll see how it goes. And hopefully, sometime in the next few weeks, I’ll have a much longer post about what else is going on. For others it might seem like a small step forward, but for me, it has the potential to be pretty awesome.

Book 3 – Where it stands

I just finished what I hope is the penultimate revision of book 3. The title is still A Warrior’s Penance, unless I think of something better. Titles aren’t my strong suit. Anyway, the book is about the same length as the second book-roughly 180,000 words. Right now, it’s in the hands of the beta readers. After their input, I’ll revise one last time, then it’s off to the proofreader. I’ve already started the process on commissioning cover art, so if all goes well (please let it go well), the book should be out the door by mid-April. There will also be a boxed set with all three books.

New cover art for A Warrior’s Path and A Warrior’s Knowledge

Pretty shiny stuff. I’ll get the updated print version out as soon as I have the finalized updated interior work. Hopefully not too far off. And then it’s just the final two drafts (I hope) of book 3, send it to the beta readers, one more draft, off to the editor, get the interior layout completed, and then publish! Not too long at all. Oh yeah, and then send it to Nick to narrate.

First draft of A Warrior’s Penance is finally finished!

I know writing a book is all about the journey, but it sure is sweet when I get to write these two words.

Whew! I’m a little numb right now. I still can’t believe I’m done with this story that’s occupied my mind for so many years. I also can’t believe it ended up being roughly 1550 words of a single story stretched out over three books. As for editing, I’ll get to that next year.

Audiobook for A Warrior’s Knowledge

The audiobook version of A Warrior’s Knowledge (book 2) is done, but it still has to go through a final round of sound checks. I have no idea how long that will take, but I’m told it can be up to  10-14 business days. Then, it’s released on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. We’re on day 3 today. Sigh.

New formatting for books 1 and 2

I’m updating the appearance of both the ebooks and print versions of books 1 and 2. The story itself remains the same, but the presentation of the words is so much prettier now. Here’s a glimpse of what the ebooks will look like. The print version is even nicer. They should be ready to go early next week. That reminds me: I should take the print version off the market for now.
