Blood of a Novice releases!
Hey everyone,
It’s the day after release day, and Blood of a Novice went out into the world! Right now, it’s available as both an ebook and audiobook, and I should have a print version available soon, too. Here’s the audiobook link: https://www.audible.com/pd/Blood-of-a-Novice-Audiobook/B0BDNZ2W19
I’m doing an AMA on r/progression on Nov. 15th, and I may have 3 audiobook codes to giveaway on that date.
There’s also going to be a different giveaway for those who purchased Blood of a Novice. It’s a chance to win one of three hardcovers, basically because I need reviews. Just follow these rules:
- Purchase Blood of a Novice, Book One from my new series The Eternal Ephemera and take a snapshot of the proof of purchase.
- Read it.
- Leave a Review on Amazon or Audible and provide a snapshot of the review.
- Send snapshots to contact@davisashura.com.
- Three winners will receive a signed, first edition copy of Blood of a Novice!
Hope you’ll consider participating!
Anyway, it’s all pretty exciting but also nerve-wracking. How will the book be received, etc? I’m trying not to pay it much attention, but that’s impossible. But so far, this is what other authors have said:
“Heartwarming and with characters I could root for and cry with. I can wholeheartedly recommend this epic novel, for it has captured my heart in ways very few novels do.”
- ML Spencer, bestselling author of Dragon Mage
“Blood of a Novice absolutely rocks! It’s like if someone took a grown-up character from the Goonies or Stand By Me and turned them into a badass magical action hero in a universe where the world itself gets cancer and spawns demons from the tumors. Oh, and did I mention there was a talking panda? Because there’s a talking panda.”
- John Bierce, author of Mage Errant
“Heartfelt, gripping, and featuring a fascinating advancement system, Blood of a Novice is everything you could want from a magic academy novel.”
- Phil Tucker, bestselling author of Bastion
“Ashura has an almost supernatural knack for creating fascinating characters and setting them on exciting journeys in fantastic worlds, including at a wonderfully realized military/magic school. I loved it, and highly recommend it to any and all fans of fantasy adventure.”
- Dyrk Ashton, bestselling author of Paternus
Well that’s all I got. I’m going to get back to writing Bonds of Truths, book 4 of Instrument of Omens. I’m nearly halfway through the book, which is shocking, and I’m already posting chapters on my Patreon.
Cheers!
Davis

I keep putting the book down because I don’t want to it to end, lol. I actually came here hoping that there was a sequel about to drop!
Haha! That was quick reading, even why you’re putting the book down just to keep it from ending. I completely know how that feels, and it’s also one of the best compliments a writer can get, so thank you for that. As for the sequel… Oof. So much on my plate right now. Instrument of Omens book 4 for one. That’s a big one.

Sad to know we won’t be getting a sequel anytime soon. Still this was a great book so I hope you can come back to give it a sequel at some point in the future.
Hey, there’s no need for sadness. There will be a sequel to Blood of a Novice. I don’t know when it’ll be done, but that’s the next book I’ll be working on following the one I’m about to finish (Instrument of Omens, book 4).

Yup this was a good read. I don’t remember where I heard about this, probably on Reddit? Regardless, I really enjoyed the audiobook. Great work. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!

Just finished the audio book! Travis baldree has quickly become my favorite narrator, just edging out nick podehl. He was an especially great choice for this book since he does the raspy, growly voices so perfectly.
The book itself was fantastic! I loved the tie ins throught, and especially the name drop in the last few chapters that had me thinking back and remembering all of the little clues! (3rd.. I mean…) loved that little surprise!
Super excited for the next one, even more so now than book of instrument of omens!
Excited to keep reading whatever you put out, so keep writing and you’ll have an enthusiastic reader in me.
P.S : I’ve been considering the william wilde series for awhile now, but I’ve been worried about it being for a younger audience than myself but feel like I’m missing some world building by not reading them. I off base on the age range?
Thanks!
Absolutely loved Blood of a novice! (And every other anchored World Series) you’re my favorite author and actually inspired me to write one of my own! As a resident physician I wasn’t sure I had the time, but reading your books gave me the push I needed and I’m now working on the sequel to my first!
I have to tell you that the best part of being a writer is making a difference in someone else’s life… sorta like being a physician. And the fact that my books helped inspire you to give your own books life means more than anything. I’m so happy for you, and I also hope that one day, you let the rest of the world have a chance to read what you’ve written.

Hi, any updates as to how close you are to finishing book 2 of the eternal ephemera series? Very keen!
I’m typing away, and I should have it out by year’s end.
